The FRA Holds “Love, Faith, Courage” Memorial for Charlie Kirk– Calls Echo Across Society to Defend Freedom and Faith

2025.10.18

On October 18th, the FRA, together with the Taiwan Solidarity Party, the Union of Taiwanese Teachers, the Taiwan Liberty Society, the Taiwan Human Rights and Cultural Association, and other organizations, co-hosted “Love, Faith, Courage: A Memorial for Charlie Kirk” to commemorate the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk, an activist who dedicated his life to defending freedom of religion and speech and inspiring a generation of young Americans. The event began with a memorial service led by Rev. Lin Tsung-Cheng, a veteran of Taiwan’s democratic movement, and was officiated by Rev. Tsai Cheng-Tao of the Shuanglian Presbyterian Church. The FRA Choir also performed hymns in remembrance, filling the venue with a solemn and moving atmosphere.

Many political leaders, religious figures, and scholars from Taiwan and abroad spoke at the event, reflecting on Charlie Kirk’s spiritual convictions and intellectual legacy, and warning Taiwan’s society of the erosion of freedom by leftist cultural trends.

Former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon said that Kirk had deep affection for East Asia — including South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Japan — and chose to visit these countries to spread the message and faith of freedom. He urged everyone to remember that the spirit of Charlie Kirk still lives on.

Rev. Joel Linton of Yilan’s KB Riverside Church stated that the global conflict today is essentially a struggle between freedom and authoritarianism. True freedom, he said, is not granted by government but comes from God’s grace. He warned that freedom of religion, speech, thought, and the press are being eroded by leftist forces, saying “If Taiwanese people do not fight for it, such freedom will soon vanish.” He urged vigilance to protect faith and God-given freedom, and said that if Charlie Kirk were still alive, he too would resolutely defend against both Chinese aggression and leftist cancel-culture movements.

Judy Linton, a political victim of Taiwan’s “Lin family massacre,” said she was deeply shaken by Kirk’s martyrdom. “Charlie’s life goal was to glorify God,” she said. “He believed in God, and therefore had the courage to walk into the lions’ den.” Linton emphasized that Kirk lived out truth through faith, serving as a model for Christians. If Taiwan neglects the inheritance of faith and family values, she warned, education will lose its foundation. She also called for rebuilding moral and spiritual grounding so that education can once again nurture courage and conviction.

Guermantes Lailari, visiting fellow at Taiwan’s Institute for National Defense and Security Research and former US Air Force lieutenant colonel, described Charlie Kirk as “one of the clearest anti-communist young leaders.” He cautioned that the Chinese Communist Party seeks to destroy the global order of freedom, while Kirk’s defense of faith and free speech represents the US’ return to its founding ideals. “Charlie symbolizes an America returning to God and liberty,” he said, adding that such faith is the foundation of Taiwan and the US’ shared values, which are essential for jointly resisting authoritarian threats.

Israeli Representative to Taiwan Maya Yaron, said that Charlie Kirk, with his steadfast faith and dialogue across borders, was a true friend of Israel. She stressed that freedom of speech is sacred and the basis of spiritual and cultural exchange. “Through sincerity and courage, Charlie let the light of freedom shine upon the world,” she said. She also emphasized that Israel regards Kirk as a partner in the values of democracy and faith and offers its greatest respect to the young thinker.

Chou Ni-An, Chair of the Taiwan Solidarity Party, said the memorial was not only an act of mourning but also a call to action. She warned that current trends such as the gender spectrum and DEI policies are undermining the moral foundation of society, while cancel culture is silencing free speech — the cornerstone of democracy. Chou urged all sectors to carry forward Kirk’s convictions and defend freedom, faith, and family values, saying “If we do not speak out, truth itself will be silenced.”

Lin Chien-Liang, president of the Taiwanese Association in Japan, said Charlie Kirk’s death shook the US and awakened a generation. “Postwar America had long leaned left, but Charlie’s martyrdom brought reflection and revival,” he said. He urged Taiwan to examine whether it had forgotten its linguistic, cultural, and spiritual roots while pursuing progressive slogans. “If Taiwan is to become a great and respected nation, it must rediscover tradition and faith,” he concluded.

Fujii Genki, Japanese commentator and founder of the ONE TAIWAN 2023 Forum, said tbat while the US was founded on Christian values, it has been corroded in recent years by leftist forces. He called Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA a symbol of youth power reversing that decline. “Charlie awakened Americans as a martyr, prompting the rebirth of a Christian America,” he said. “This will make America stronger and the free world more resolute in resisting atheistic communism.”

Japanese conservative thinker Nagayama Hideki pointed out that communism seeks to destroy social traditions to provoke systemic collapse and revolution. He argued that the US LGBT movement, under the banner of “eliminating discrimination,” in fact denies family and national foundations, leading to social division. He hoped Kirk's martyrdom could inspire the Taiwanese people to reflect on the moral and spiritual roots of freedom.

Pan Wei-You, chair of the Union of Taiwanese Teachers, said education holds the power to change the world. According to him, love lights the soul, faith upholds truth, and courage enables one to choose light even in darkness. “May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ keep Charlie’s conviction alive in our hearts,” he prayed. He also argued that education should cultivate youth grounded in faith and responsibility, echoing the ideals Charlie Kirk championed throughout his life.

Senator Yamanaka Izumi of Japan’s Sanseito Party said Kirk once joined a forum hosted by the party and warned Japan about illegal immigration issues. Rising politician Hirano Uryu added that Kirk promoted dialogue through faith and courage, exemplifying a spirit that does not fear truth. Gil Diniz, a city councilor from São Paulo, Brazil, also payed tribute on behalf of the Brazilian people, calling Kirk “a hero who proclaimed Christ’s teaching amid the noise of the world.”

FRA Supervisor Liu Yu-Hsi said that true freedom comes from faith and action within the heart, and only by living out God’s will can society become better. FRA Vice-Chair Charles Lee prayed for wisdom to discern right from wrong, while FRA Chair Jason Chen stressed that Kirk’s spirit should be a model for the younger generation.

Former military pilot Hsu Po-Yueh, known as “Eagle Dad,” said that the core of Turning Point lies in encountering truth, and only truth can change hearts. He emphasized that the R.O.C.’s spirit of freedom must return to universal values and not be seized by authoritarian ideology. “Today we do not only commemorate a man who fell for faith, but must also stand for faith and walk our own path,” he said.

Lo Chun-Hsuan, president of Taiwan Society North, said that Charlie Kirk encouraged youth to practice democracy through conviction, in line with Taiwan Society North’s long-term advocacy for education and civic awareness. “Freedom is not a heavenly gift,” he remarked, “but something that must be protected through action.”

Rev. Wang Chin-Tsai concluded, “Faith is not spoken, but lived.” Citing the Lin Yi-Hsiung family as an example, he urged believers to live out their faith within families and churches, and respond to God’s calling through action.

Taking inspiration from Charlie Kirk’s faith and sacrifice, the FRA calls on Taiwanese society to cherish freedom, return to faith, and face global challenges with love and courage.

“Towards Permanent World Peace: The Shared Mission of the US and Taiwan”forum

2025.1.6.

Former US secretary of state Mike Pompeo known for being the most pro-Taiwan official to hold the post, visited Taiwan for the fourth time, attending Formosa Republican Association's "Towards Permanent World Peace: The Shared Mission of the US and Taiwan" forum. He reaffirmed his belief in Taiwan’s democracy, liberty, human rights and independence. Throughout his time as secretary of state,

Poeple of Taiwan worry that US Senator Marco Rubio might not be as supportive. Pompeo told forum attendees that US national strategy and foreign diplomacy is determined by the president — the secretary of state merely executes it. In other words, policy on containing China or supporting Taiwan would be made by President Trump, not Rubio, and President Trump's thoughts on strategy and policy are not likely to change significantly from his previous term.

During his first stint in the White House, Trump established “strategic clarity,” ending the previous era of “strategic ambiguity,” he said. Although strategic ambiguity had its historical uses, it also created risks, leading oppressors such as China to believe they could act without consequences. Ending it was necessary.

In his next term, Trump is likely to continue his strategic clarity policy by maintaining cooperation with allies in the Indo-Pacific region — Japan, Australia, the Philippines, India and others — to deter Chinese aggression, "Taiwan is free and independent" is the message must be conveyed to Beijing clearly.

Chinese tyrant Xi(習近平) wants Taiwan to believe itself to be isolated without support. We, US and Taiwan and all the allies together, must make Xi realize that he is wrong.

Pompeo believes in the value of universal human rights. In a state like China — which requires its citizens to bow to the government and forbids dissenting opinions — people are merely a tool to be used by the government. Such a distorted system cannot become the global norm.

To resist the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) evil, a country like Taiwan — a free, independent and democratic nation that upholds universal human rights, where sovereignty rests in the hands of the public — must receive support.

Pompeo believes Taiwan is a democratic beacon in the fight against an authoritarian China. He firmly believes that it is Taiwan that can change China — not vice versa. With each democratic election and each forum like the one , Taiwan guides China toward the path of democracy.

Taiwan must demonstrate its resolve to defend independence and safeguard the values of freedom, democracy and human rights — this would allow it to naturally attract the united support of mainstream democratic countries around the globe.

Pompeo’s words should be a wake-up call and a marker illuminating a path for Taiwan’s future. Before it can receive international support, Taiwan must develop self-reliance. By becoming a beacon of democratic values leading the fight against the CCP’s oppression, Taiwan would earn worldwide support and gain the potential to reach new heights.

Pompeo has complete faith in Taiwan’s future. He visited the nation three times as former US secretary of state, but he is certain that one day an incumbent US secretary will visit Taiwan, maybe Rubio will.
